I told the young singer Emma Kok that my Dutch [culture] mom would tell me to be nice to her because of her stomach and being weak, like, "first and foremost."
Is that rude because most people don't talk that way or because of some complex social reason? Is it rude because, though it is okay, it has these reasons for being odd and was not needed and I am not in her favor?
